My name is Joel Hicks. I am professional, full-time agency model and actor. My creative work however, also spans to photography and, in addition, I am the owner of Joel Hicks Photographic, a private photographic studio and 13 acre location set in the heart of the Midlands.

- The Studio

The studio space at Joel Hicks Photographic has everything you need for your creative needs.

It comes equipped with multiple flash lights with various fixings, remotes, triggers, reflectors, stands, props and many other photographic aids. Plug sockets are located both in the ceiling and on the walls, and creatives are welcome to bring their own lighting equipment should they so wish.

Along with red, grey and white walls, there are white, black and chroma-key green vinyl backdrops in the studio. The vinyl is extremely durable and strong, and the backdrops are easily interchanged using a light and easy to use mechanism.

There is a changing area for models, as well as hanging and storage space for clothing and other items.

The studio includes a 42" plasma screen TV for the viewing of images or other media. In addition, the screen is also connected to Apple TV and so any Apple device can be shown on the screen or played through the TV using the 'mirror screen' option located in your device settings.

The studio also comes with free WiFi access.

It should be noted that the studio is fitted with a CCTV camera. This camera is in operation for the protection of both the model and the photographer, and to ensure studio security.

- The Location

Joel Hicks Photographic is situated within 13 acres of privately owned land, and provides a wonderfully varied and creative opportunity for both photographers and models alike, as well as commercial clients.

The location encompases a number of diverse and distinct features, rendering it suitable for a wide range of creative projects. These features include a 3 acre lake, workshop, industrial units and machinery, a small wood, stables, several ponds and much, much more.

- Hire

At Joel Hicks Photographic there are a number of different hire options available to suit the needs of both the photographer and model alike. Bookings are made on the basis that both the studio and location will be available during the allotted time, and gives licence to a single photographer and model for that period. To enquire about group bookings and workshops, please send me a direct message.

During the period from June-August the location is available to multiple hire bookings. Outside this period, Joel Hicks Photographic operates with only one booking (i.e. one photographer and model) on site at any one time.

- Single Bookings:

Hourly rate - £15 hour (weekdays), £20 hour (weekends). Minimum 2 hour bookings. Please enquire for single hour bookings.

Cancellations made more than 48 hours before a specific date will not be charged, otherwise the full cost of studio hire may be requested (dependent on the circumstances). If a model is booked on a 'model day', 50% of the total fee will be requested if cancellations are made within a week of the shoot date, whilst the full fee will be requested if cancellations are made with less than 48 hours to go.

- Model Tours

For freelance models embarking on tours to the Midlands region, Joel Hicks Photographic is an ideal place to base your tour. With the studio and location available for hire during your stay, cities such as Leicester, Tamworth, Birmingham and Nottingham are all short commutes either by train or car. Accommodation is also available if required at £10 per night.

Models who work from Joel Hicks Photographic are encouraged to always have two studio days booked in on the calendar, approximalty 3 months apart. This gives options for photographers who may be unable to make a specific date... and here at Joel Hicks Photographic we want models to feel that they are shooting at a home from home.

It is also essential that models who arrange studio days at Joel Hicks Photographic are pro-active in both selling and promoting the studio...

At the studio there is no requirement to 'sell out' any particular day, nor is there any charge if a model fails to sell at all, all that the studio asks for is that a model does their best in this regard. This means:

Promoting the studio day on freelance sites such as this
Promoting the studio day on social media
Encouraging photographers to sign up to the JHP newsletter
Contacting photographers in the area who have expressed an interest in working with them
Models looking to work with me

For models who are looking to work with Joel himself, he will usually ask them to host a studio day in order to pay for the cost of their photoshoot.

This works particularly well for new models who are then able to generate a portfolio very quickly and easily, whilst working with a variety of photographers in a secure and safe environment.

When shooting with Joel, he will always provide models with high resolution, non-watermarked images for agency use - this happens in all cases. He will also supply watermarked images for the model to use when publishing online.

- London-based Creatives and Getting Here

Joel Hicks Photographic is little over an hour away from central London by train, with a direct train service running throughout the day from Euston to Rugby (travel time 50 minutes), from which the studio & location is just a short 10 mile drive (a pick up service is available with prior arrangement).

Alternatively, Joel Hicks Photographic is close to Hinckley, Nuneaton and Leicester train stations, or easily accessible via the M1, M6 and M69 motorways.
