I'm a new (ish) photographer, scrambling around trying to achieve two things. One, is capturing the photographs that I want, and the second is to actually make a transition into being paid for my work!
I'm experienced in outdoor photography, having been a photographer for expeditions in the Arctic and Greenland. Scenery is great to photograph, but it's not given me much of an understanding of photographing people (unless they are on a mountain, I guess) and certainly has not given me an insight into how to make glamorous alternative shoots with models! Climbers are an interesting bunch to photograph, but not really what you'd class as glamorous!
I've done quite a few studio shoots (yeah, don't be impressed by the samples, it's rather easy if the other guys have set up the studio for you!) to get back to the basics of indoor photography and want to branch out into more commercial work, but first I need to define and work on my individual style.
I did work for a photographer 10 years ago who taught me the basics of shoots, and it's squirreled away in my brain somewhere, so models will have to have a fair amount of patience with me!
Ideally I'm interested in burlesque style shoots, or where the ordinary girl becomes extraordinary or vampish. I like the idea of two shoots, before and after style, and trying to capture two completely different people in one model. The person you'll see on the street and the woman beneath, flaunting her sexuality. Wantonly. Er. Probably. It really depends on the model and location.
Alternatively I'm interested in capturing the alternative, the different and the unique (yeah, I know, like every photographer). I'm hoping to find some models with whom I can have a collaborative relationship in creating images we both enjoy, that add to both our skills and portfolios.
Also on purpleport (mercenarybeauty) as I don't know which site is better!
