Hi, could I have some feedback on my folio please?

Keep in mind, these are armature photographer pictures and its my first modeling folio.

Some advice what to do is going to be very helpful for me.

Thank you

Hi Jade

Welcome to the site. As you say your photos are not the best, however they are good enough to show your potential.

I'm sure if you put in the hard work that you could be in demand with many good photographers in your area who will provide you with better images.

Good luck, and most importantly enjoy yourself.

Hi Jade,
and welcome.

I can only really echo what Steve has already said,
your portfolio shows good Potential and is enough for a Photographer with more experience to pick up on and get you some better images.

Best of luck

James.

I support the above comments - you definitely have potential. I suggest you find a photographer whose work you like and pay for some professional shots. Take care and make sure the photographer is insured - there are a lot who are not.

I agree with graham but also sugest looking for Photographers you like that may offer TF based shoots as a way of keeping some costs down many of us offer professional shoots on a TF basis to help out newcomers.

many of us are insured what with having thousands of pounds worth of kit and also with 3rd party Public liability, to protect customers and the public in our studios.

although many are not insured as they dont feel the need to cover there photography equipment and work in areas that can not be covered by 3rd party public liability also there is no law that stats a Photogerapher needs to be insured. other than having car insurance when driving to a shoot.

Regarding TF photo shoots there is a problem! TF shoots are a 50/50 arrangement between the model and photographer - they are not photo shoots with the specific aim of producing a modelling portfolio. They can be useful to add variety to an existing range of image but it could take along time get the shots a model needs. If you pay a professional photographer to do a portfolio photo shoot, the photographer has to deliver - not so with TF!

Your new images are step in the right direction.

I would have to disagree With you Graham (as do a number of other Photographers I know)

If a model asks me if I would help build a Portfolio with them on a TF basis I would be happy to give them the Fully Professional Shoot more so I felt they had something and that I could well Use some of the images to update my own folio.

TF is no diffident you are just not paying hard cash for it!

If you book a shoot with anyone then Photographer and Model would Talk and both know what they were getting from the Shoot and if it was Mentioned that a Model wanted images or a Full portfolio Shoot set up then that's what would be worked on.

have Some Common-sense!

Also Paying one Photographer for a Portfolio shoot can lead to Dull and repetitive images just like every other Portfolio that Tog has shot as they tend to not think of the model and just go over the same set up with all that book a folio shoot.

Also many Of us Photographers as well as agency's Like to see a very Wide variety of images and styles in a Models portfolio that can only come from having a Variety of images taken from different photographers so makes booking a full folio shoot a little pointless and a waste of money.

I agree with much of what Bluephin says, and I would add that TF shoots are a good way of gaining experience and updating a portfolio. But, the number of variable circumstances prevailing with TF photo shoots ie: the Tog needs to be up for it - the model needs to fit what the Tog wants and the shots still need to be suitable. Unfortunately, TF can be a lottery!

I agree with Graham ,Who is talking commonsense .If a Professional Photographer is hired for payment he is under a contractual obligation to supply whatever was agreed . Tf agreements can and often do go very wrong no matter how Professional the Photographer tries to be ,How many forum posts do you read on sites with models complaining they don't get pictures back from a tf* shoot? or pics are unusable , it happens ( lots ) .To a beginner Model the Pro route is the way to go ,otherwise the only option is TF shoots and to build up slowly.
Most real agencies are happy with six to ten shots ,at least this is what I'm led to believe . and this includes the basic headshots ,profiles and full length or am I misguided ? .

Supporting Paul's comments, models need to appreciate that their career is likely to be short (nothing to do with me - that's just how it is) and even a month in a career lasting maybe 10 years is significant. If it takes 6 months building a portfolio using TF, that's 5% of a career gone just building a portfolio. The pro route definitely has the edge - invest in a paid shoot a get started now.

Hiya Courtney

As someone who went through the process many moons ago, I'd have to say explore both routes (booking a pro and doing TF). A simple pro-shoot will give you the essentials needed for a basic starting-out portfolio (nice clear quality headshots, three-quarter shots, full-length shots, etc.), but lets face it, a good photographer can make anyone look like a model.

The TF shoots will give you the depth in your portfolio which you'll need to be able to justify charging. And it will show that you can get good results from a wide variety of shoots, not just one shoot where a professional tells you what to do the whole time. Having the ability to pose yourself is key in getting paid work.

And don't forget references - TF shoots help you build a list of references which is just as important, to show you're able to turn up to a shoot (something that not everyone has the ability to do, strangely enough). And word of mouth is important too - models and photographers talk, so building up a good professional reputation will help you go far.

The idea that you can start charging after one shoot with a pro photographer, without putting in the time to learn and gain experience, is why many photographers get frustrated. It's also why new models get frustrated and quit because they don't understand why they're not getting work. And everyone ends up bitching about the whole thing in the forums.

Seeing as you are rather young, you've got all the time in the world, and a lot of paid work will be for shoots that you're unable to apply for (as in the UK you're classed as a minor until you're 18 ). But that just means that by the time you're 18 and able to whatever shoots you like, you'll have a massive portfolio and list of references that the other 18-year-olds just starting out won't have, and it will make you very marketable.

Anyway, just my thoughts, but I thought a model's opinion might be helpful in this case.

Id happily do a TFP with you to build your portfolio your face is strong and your hair could be used to make the image very vibrant. id avoid the lingerie pictures at 14 but try swimwear for figure work, or try not to look sultry. even if it kills the image ( shame but true )
yes you need a better photographer the images lack depth and clarity.
