TF shoots - many models expect their expenses to be covered - but who covers the photographers expenses that might include travel, insurance, equipment wear & tear, heating/light, studio hire & food. How about a TF shoot model paying for these?

Do whatever you agree with the model, there are no rules.

Absolutely right and thats what I have done for over 20 years. The isssue is the 'EXPECTATION' from many models that their expenses should be paid by the photographer who also must also pay for his/her own expenses.

I think it's essential to cover all aspects of exactly what each party is contributing on a tf shoot, be it either cd or prints before the day of the shoot. No hard and fast rules as I see it.My good lady has never expected nor implied anything should be offered except for the agreed media ie:cd/prints.
A common sense approach prevails in most cases, I wouldn't expect a model generally to travel nationally for a TFCD shoot, would be very expensive I'd imagine both in terms of fares and travelling time. However for a more local shoot, I suspect they may be willing to cover their own travel, depending on what the shoot could bring to their portfolio.
I have heard of some models, especially new girls refering to tf shoots as "free shoots" however just because no currency changes hands, this is far from the case, time on both shoot and any editing work is valuble and cannot be classed as having no value just because no money is exchanged.
Very much a mutually beneficial arrangement if arranged properly to both parties satisfaction.

I agree entirely with OMF.

I have seen this debate many times over the years, and it always follows the expectation that the "Model" should be paid irrespective of experience....

Even "Photographers" have made similar statements in support of the "Models", after all if it weren't for the "Models" who would we "Photographers" Photograph?

So only the model's time has real value.....
The Photographers time has no value, his/her experience has no value, the scrimping and saving to buy all the camera/studio equipment has no value, the hours spent working in Photoshop or editing the images has no value, the cost of the materials (CDs, Paper, Postage & Packaging...etc), has no value.

The point is... No one works for FREE, both the Photographer and the Model contribute to every shoot, the rest is TF* detail.

My advice... Both Models and Photographers that are not happy doing TF*... don't do it, but stop whining on about those that do.
