I have just been in email conversation with a model who contacted me enquiring about the possibility of working with me.

So during the exchange i asked her about her levels and what if anything she had in mind.
The reply was a little confusing for me, she stated...she was comfortable working to "Implied Topless and happy with Open Leg shots".
I wrote back and explained that i was a little confused...She was happy to work to "Implied Topless" and "Open Leg", was she aware that "Open Leg" was considered an "Adult" level?

She replied "For adult levels i am only comfortable upto Open Leg".

To cut a long story short, eventually she sent me a photograph of herself "Implied Topless and Open Leg".
In the image, she was Topless but covering her breasts with her hands, she was in a crouching pose with her legs/knees apart.... but wearing Bikini bottoms.

I was tempted to go out and buy my own beer.....

This has to be the best description i have received so far.

I tried to edit the above post, but every time i do, i am told...I have logged out and this is not my post...

Anyhow, i wanted to point out...
A: the Model is not on this site.
B: At this point i had not suggested any shoot options, only that... as she contacted me, did she have any ideas of her own.
C: The Model is in her mid 30s and Blond....oops should not have said that...i meant, she has nice hair.

Well as a new member and someone who has trawled this site to see what's what I have to say that this area of levels does seem to cause some contention. I have made a mental note to self to be very careful! On the other hand, I am doing a shoot on Friday and am pretty sure I only implied that I knew what I was doing...so maybe it works both ways!!!

Just a thought, but might be worth dropping James a line, possibly requesting more definition in the "glossary",currently residing at the foot of the page.My good lady often gets asked what levels she works to, even though it's specified on her profile, even some established photographers have varying opinions as to the various terms and explanations.I think it's important to note that the term "adult" maybe viewed as an "umbrella heading" under which several "sub genres" lie.
Whilst some may class topless and lingerie as adult rated, others may only view full frontal nudity, and male/female genitalia as falling into this category.
I was once pointed to a very conscise and well written article on a photographers website regarding such levels, if I can find the link, with James's conscent I'll gladly post it as a guide for those wanting an overview,
Regards Wayne.

Aahhh I suspect I know which one you mean, I have however just found the one I refered to above, it's actually on a pro-photographers website, So I doubt he'll thank me for posting url's etc. I'll keep it in my favourites, and anyone who wants it, drop me a line, also has some very sound advice for models, all in all a damn good read.
Regards Wayne.

I agree that some outline definition of 'levels' would be useful on this site, for new models and new photographers alike.

Can we agree that the lady in the original post was'confused' and some of us may recognise in the report a little glimmer of what we too may have encountered.

BUT surely it's all a question of semantics and the result of nature and nurture?
We are all different, from different backgrouds, educational experience and exposure to 'the world of mods and togs'.

A beautifully composed and lit image of naked person may be 'art' to one person, 'pornography' to another, acceptable for a coffee table book in one household,a joke about 'smut' in a pub or garage.

How about a category... "Implied open leg" in the "Adult" Section.
or we could have a section for painter/sketch artists... "Implied Photography".

I need more coffee... or to get out more.
